Dove andiamo in vacanza quest’anno?

Anna Gasparini davanti all’Hotel Clipper di Pesaro (luglio 2012)

Anna Gasparini ci guida verso l’ingresso dell’albergo Clipper.

E’vero.

Riuscite a mantenere l’armonia familiare?

Oppure, come dicono molte persone, potrebbe incrinarla?

Trattate sempre così bene i vostri clienti?
Certo.

Invece continuo a lavorare!

Ci guardiamo e scoppiamo a ridere!

Traduzione dell’articolo precedente in lingua inglese

Le Marche is my favorite region, rich in history, culture, nature, enchanting landscapes, including land, sea and blue sky. It is located in a strategic point of our country, from where you can reach other cities of art, velvety hills of flowers, hermitages in mountainous or rocky areas, or you can head to pretty villages with an antique touch, where you can feel a sense of peace.

Among the many places to visit, we would like to bring your attention to Urbino, Gradara, Montegridolfo, the Furlo Creek, Corinaldo, San Leo and Beato Sante, and then Pesaro, where the famous composer Gioacchino Rossini was born. Still today in the theater ‘Gioacchino Rosssini’ concerts, plays, operas of great value are performed and they attract tourists from all over Italy and Europe.

As we did for Sardinia and Puglia we would like to recommend three different places where you can stay, if you wish to discover Le Marche. One is located on the Adriatic coast and two are inland, in this fascinating region.

We begin by recommending to those who love the sea a hotel in Pesaro, located a short walk from the beach: Hotel Clipper. It is a family business and we assure that you will taste the most delicious food there. We went to visit them, to personally hear their story, as told by Anna Gasparini, the manager, who has been running the hotel since 1971 with her husband Caride, and their children Roberto and Vanessa. A few months ago Vanessa gave birth to little Alex, who brought …. ‘a new burst of youth’ into this cheerful and friendly family. Anna is a beautiful woman who looks much younger than she actually is: blonde, blue-eyed, decisive and serious about her work, while being very sweet in private and with friends.

Anna, tell us your story, which is strongly related to this hotel.
Caride is from Pesaro; I’m from Puglia. We met when I was only 17 years old and my husband 23. We were young and in love. He worked on cruise ships as ‘maitre d’hotel,’ so he was travelling a lot, from Italy to the United States of America to the Caribbean, but considering that he had a girlfriend (ME!!!) … on land, he wanted to change his career to be able to be together. The previous owner of the Hotel Clipper was looking for a good ‘Mâitre d’hotel,’ and since Caride had always worked on luxury ships, for him he was the ideal person. So he returned to his city.

And then what happened? Did you leave your beautiful Puglia to follow Caride?
Yes, when my husband became the hotel manager. This too was a lucky coincidence; in fact, the former owner of Hotel Clipper had decided to leave the business. So who better than Caride to take on the responsibility?
Then, Vanessa was born. I wasn’t even 20 years old and I had just graduated from high school with a diploma in business and economy.

I learned that many celebrities have stopped by your hotel …
It’s true. For example, Paul McCartney from The Beatles and Mario Del Monaco. Many others choose our hotel during the renowned Rossini Opera Festival.

How did you “convince” your children, Roberto and Vanessa to work with you? Or was it their choice?
It was natural for them to follow our steps. No imposition on our part. They grew up in this hotel, so they felt immediately involved.

Do you ever fight about work related issues? How do you manage to maintain the harmony in the family?
Yes, of course, sometimes we argue, but in the end we always try to take a shared and democratic decision, in the sense that the majority wins!

And how are things with your husband? Do you think that living together and working together solidifies a union? Or, as many people say, do you believe that this professional relationship might ruin it?
In our case, we’ve never had any incentive to real fights: in fact, we split the tasks. As it may happen in every happy marriage, it is more the case of animated discussions without strong or dominant positions by either side, which may negatively impact our marriage.

Who among all of you makes the most important decisions?
In life, all choices are equally important. There is no ranking. Therefore, I prefer to answer that we take decisions in mutual agreement, both in private life and professional life. Don’t forget that we grew up together.

And in the professional field what matters most?
We care that customers will enjoy their time here. So it’s our duty to take care of them in the best possible way. This is our main goal. We’re perfectionists: the quality of service is important, as well as the relationship between quality and price.

In fact, this evening I had a delicious dinner: for example, home-cooked vegetables from the Garden and baked monkfish. Do you always treat your customers this well?
Absolutely. We like homemade food. My mother-in-law (who is now 85 years old), started it with her unique recipes. Now our son Roberto follows in her footsteps. Customers’ satisfaction compensates for all the sacrifices we make.

Behind every great man there’s always a great woman …. And you seem to me a strong person, who has always supported her husband. Wife, mother, entrepreneur … have you ever been as tired to say “enough, let me rest a little …”
It has happened, it has happened … sometimes. But in life you always have to move forward. Never stop, never give up, never dwell too much on laments. Now I would really like to finish our professional career and leave it to my children. Instead I continue to work! In fact this building is quite “old” and must be maintained continuously. We just redid the bathrooms and then we have other projects.

For example, a swimming pool?
If there were room. But there isn’t, so it’s useless to dream about spaces that will never be there. Let’s be realistic! On the other hand, we are located at only a few steps from the sea. And … there is nothing more beautiful than the sea!

I’m going to list three colors and I would like for you to associate them to something. Blue, yellow, red.
Blue is the color of my sea. I love the sea. It makes me think about relaxation.
We painted our rooms in yellow. It’s the color of light, of the sun …
Red is passion. It’s the color that represents my personality: in fact, red is the passion that I put into everything I do, both at work and above all in my family. I also like pink, in all its shades.

We look at each other and we burst into laughter! In fact today … we both dressed in pink! As they say in the Netherlands … “geen toeval” nothing happens by chance!
As it wasn’t their love when they were young, the choice to manage a hotel in Pesaro, their children, the sweet little nephew Alex, who opens the door to a new generation. And also this interview was conducted with the emotions of someone who, in this very beautiful city, spent the childhood and the best times of her life with her family.

An alternative to the classic hotel is “The Seventh village“: a Bed & Breakfast with apartments, located in Corinaldo, a small town set like a jewel in a valley from where you can enjoy a stunning landscapes. The B&B was born out of the love for Italy from a Dutch family who at a certain point decided to leave the Netherlands to move to Le Marche. The owners, Herman and Marion Voetman – Brekelmans are the nicest and most hospitable people. It is worth to visit them to reward years of hard work and effort, which eventually led them to realize their desire to open a farm. There are also opportunities to take courses in Italian language and the cuisine is authentic. The people who have stayed came back excited and ready to go back again the following year. Therefore, it’s better to book your stay as soon as possible.
We would also like to recommend ‘Gustissimo,’ another farm in Force, always in Le Marche, started and managed by two very enterprising and courageous women: Joey Wykret and Annemiek Kranen, 38 years old, who also left the Netherlands to jump into a real … Italian adventure. They left with little money, few possessions, but with a great desire to work to afford a life in the land of their dreams: Italy. With their savings they bought a “ruin” and slowly have restored it; years and years of hard work, patience, illusions and disappointments, defeats and small victories, plus, many sacrifices. Two women, alone, in a country at 690 meters of altitude! They never gave up, not even in front of the weather, the cold, the snow, or an accident that occurred to one of them when she broke a leg. At night they slept in a tent and worked tirelessly during the day, without a moment of rest. Finally, on April 25, 2008 they opened their doors and hosted their first customers. The prices are very good and there is also the opportunity to sleep in the garden, in your own tent. For those who love wildlife, walks, nature and home cooking, this is the ideal place to spend the holidays.
